I have no unified theory, I have no coherent theme, this is just an update. Because it's better than doing work while (allegedly) on vacation.

1) Went to an Obama fundraiser/rally last week. It's the first time since I was a kid that I attended a paid political event. Yeah, I like the guy. No, I'm not endorsing him here. It's not about him, really;...

"Writer's Block? Yeah, I know him, who's lookin' for him?"

I've gotten about a half a page written in the past three hours. So bah. All I really want to do is play video games and eat leftover Zachary's pizza and sleep. Which I will, now.

^^^ Exactly.

I could riff on this some more, specifically re "intelligent" design, but I'm tired.

I heard about National Security Presidential Directive 51 a while back, but since I heard about it from a couple of conspiracy-obsessed whackjobs online, I didn't put a whole lot of stock into their frenzied warnings. Well, here's a point to the whackjobs - turns out that, while not as bad as they say, it's not exactly comforting.

What the hell, if we're gonna...

Although I don't think there is a snowball's chance in hell that he will run, I really sympathize with the "Draft Al Gore" campaign. Their hero has been vindicated, and that only makes the electoral travesty in 2000 sting all the more. I admit, I've often entertained the thought that the election in Florida may have been one of those "points of convergence" you are...

There are moments
While walking down Valencia
While leaning against a weary tree
While sitting in a SOMA cafe
I feel fiercely connected
to a stranger
And I imagine I can guess
the skein of their whole life
Based on their choice in beverage.

Then there are times
When you all seem
like nothing more
than clever simulacrums
Evolved heuristic stimulus engines
And then I...

Yeah, it's good that you missed all the drama. It was ugly.
I like your poem, btw.
And beets are yummy. Did you ever read Jitterbug Perfume by Tom Robbins? Makes me want beets.

My mother is investigating more advanced surgical techniques, hoping for something less extreme than a full-blown Whipple procedure. As it happens, one of the leading centers for these advanced surgeries is in San Francisco, which would make it possible for me to be there the whole time.

Hey, that's pretty cool. My GI*/Nutritionist is at CPMC. He is fantastic. Actually, several of my various specialists are there now, and they are all in the top of their field.

While I haven't undergone any surgeries there(well, not for a long while at least), I feel pretty safe in saying that you mom is going to get excellent care.

Did the AHA Heartwalk today (really more of a heart run for me, because otherwise what's the point?) The event began at Justin Herman Plaza, which was packed with various corporate teams in colored t-shirts, volunteers making a last push for money, and several large squishy costumed characters, including a very energetic Charlie the Tuna handing out Starkist snack packs.

(Side Note: I like tuna,...

The ex is out of the hospital, with a jaw full of metal and grocery bags full of liquid nutrients.

And no kidding, literally minutes after I am finished seeing her safely home, another ex calls, crying, asking me to come over.

I don't look for this shit, it just comes to me. I fucking swear.

My ex fell from a rope suspension rig and hit a concrete floor chin first. Her jaw is broken in four places, and she has lost several teeth. Considering that her father is a hermit in the hills and her mother is crazy, I'm pretty much the only person she can count on to help her in while she's in the hospital.

All of this...

Since I don't know enough about the situation to say more, best of luck in your dealings with your ex and hopefully a speedy recovery for her.

So yeah, because I don't have enough animals yet to start my own farm, I adopted a kitten. I decided early on that I would spend a few days carefully observing her personality before granting her a name... and then I said to hell with that, and just named her Molly Millions, which is what I always said I would name a cat if I...
