It is with great regret that we announce the closure of Fopp.

Our store chain is profitable, well regarded and loved by our loyal customers and staff. However we have failed to gain the necessary support from major stakeholders, suppliers and their credit insurers to generate sufficient working capital to run our expanding business.

We would like to thank staff and customers for their support over the past 25 years.

Any outstanding website orders have now been cancelled and will not be fulfilled or charged.

London, 03 July 2007: Joint Receivers and Administrators from Ernst & Young are sorry to announce the loss of approximately 700 jobs at Fopp Limited and MZ 2007 Ltd across the UK.

One of the Joint Administrators, Colin Dempster commented: "It is unfortunate that we have had to make these redundancies but we are not in a position to re-open the stores until we have the agreement of suppliers who control the licenses to sell stock.

"We would urge anyone with a genuine interest in taking on stores as going concerns to contact us immediately. In the meantime, we wanted to ensure that employees have the opportunity to claim their statutory entitlements through the Redundancy Fund as soon as possible. A dedicated team from Ernst & Young will be on hand to assist with this process. We are retaining store managers whilst we assess the prospects for re-opening."

quackers:
I hope to god that the staff took everything they could safely carry and sold it on Ebay. The company at least owes them their wages.

Fopp was the antithesis to HMV and Virgin, they actually reduced *good* CDs! And they also had a better selection of obscure CDs than the other chains. I spent a small fortune in the Reading one. I'm sure it'll be back or someone will open a similar but more profitable chain.....
