hope y'all have a pleasant Thanksgiving....

I have stamps from all over the world. I would like nothing better than to invite you over to look at them. If you have nothing better to do.
Dont look at me like that. I have no ulterior motives. Im not some fiend dredged up from your...

I had no idea the BBC had done a Titus Groan... I thought it was a book the unadaptable kind: like, for example, The Lord of the Rings... I'm really eager to know more about this movie.

Note to lost uncles: I like to read Peake's"Letters from a Lost Uncle" to small children.

some random things:
thanksgiving dinner at my sister's last night (it being the last time that both of us are going to be off in the evening for a bit) pretty low-key-with some of -the usual accouterments: turkey, cranberry relish, mashed P & G, stuffing, & a lack of certain others: awkward conversation, drunken argumentativeness, low-key hostility.
pretty much we: my sister, myself & my...

That's a good idea you have about Meg Ryan dying in all her movies. I think LucasArts is working on a program called Wish a Death Movie Magic where you can take any of your favorite celebrities you love to hate and insert them in all your favorite death scenes. I'm guessing you may have some part in its creation, no?

This Martha woman you speak of seems to be on the ball. Is she single? I'd love to meet her. Send her to me.

So why are you still here?

I found this piece this morning while looking around for something else (that's apparently vanished in a little wisp of aether & the smell of scorched wires & what P. G. Wodehouse has referred to as "the acrid stench of scorched poetry") --it was, if I remember correctly, sort of a mock "letter to the editor"I dashed off during a moment of boredom a little...

I am spying into other journals and what do I see? Oh ho! Ratsonjulia is preparing a formal dinner in Earplug's presence!

That, my friend, was another piece of wonderful fiction. Bravo.

this was great....but the sad thing is....I know some of these witch-hunters....and it is yet another reminder that we "vampires" need to "watch each others back"
Thanks again

I'm a bit confused about the difference between "regime change" (which according to 16 or 17 times per hour I hear this phrase, is a good thing) & "nation building" (which, if I remember correctly, is a bad thing, something we do not, have not & will not engage in), or the difference between "weapons of mass destruction" &, well, bunker-busters (with a nifty little...

I've got this teacher that is teaching us about how America was founded somewhat like a cult and continues to function as such. The us vs. them tactic is right up there in manipulation of the masses, we're suckers for someone to hate. Its funny how applicable the cult views are right now.

Also, do you know why concertina wire is named what it is? And is it or it not the spiraled razor edged barbed wire?

Many thanks to Mr Tom Waits!!!

BLONDE JOKE OF THE DAY:

Q: How can you tell if a blonde has put Wite-Out all over your computer screen?

A: Because...no, wait...dammit!

NYC in a little over a month! (altho there must be a little bit of my brain that's waiting for something to Screw It Up because I haven't bought the plane ticket yet) any suggestions on what a simple country...

another inmate died last night, this time in Unit One or Protective Custody--this used to be where the Child Molesters were stuck, & it still has that reputation, altho most of the C.M.s ("Chesters") were moved to an institution down south that deals with sex offenders. now it's mostly former gangbangers who've decided that life's too short for that kinda shit, whereas their former associates...

I like better to comment your posting in Morgan's journal; my comment will be: the day we'll hang out together, I'll buy you the thing with the bubbles in it.

Last night I re-read "The Little Prince"

That helped a lot.

thursday night was kind of exciting in that an inmate charged me on the tier with a sharpened stick he'd been using to stir paint & I had to wrestle it from him & kick his ass.

actually, he didn't so much "charge" me as "walk towards me" & I didn't so much wrestle it from him as have it handed to me, with a...

the malachy mccourt that tis frank mccourt's brother?? why do i miss everything? have you heard the brak song-don't touch me?? chances are you don't know who brak is. i think i give up. you should hurry and get started on your memoirs about working in a prison and being charged at with pointy sticks. and you'd have to tell it the exact same as you did above. that's good stuff.
tororo:
This entry would earn you my admiration (if it was not totally yours already); either for the politeness you displayed thanking this painter for handing you this stick, even after having noticed it was all sticky in the middle (I'm aware of my weaknesses: this sort of trouble often makes me lose my cool, and I can't assert I would have been as polite as you under similar circumstances. Blaaah! sticky sticks. I hate that); and, as well, for the way you persevere in adding constantly new improvements to your page. The Blonde Joke of the Day sure is a memorable one.

Malachy Mc Court. Sounds like a character's name in an Eco's novel. And he writes memoirs about monk swimming... Probably not still landed on our shores, I can't remember having heard of the book or of its author. But I take notice of your recommendation.

just heard a resteraunt reviewer on the radio describing "short-ribs that melt in your mouth."

damn, that's a disturbing image.
boxterjulep:
the whole idea of meat melting in your mouth is revolting. that shit's to be chewed and swallowed!

more prison tales!!

Long journal entries are fantastic, as long as they're well written. Just like any literature. It's all the crap that's hard to wade through.

Your writing, on the other hand, is always lucid and coherent and very interesting for any of us who live on the outside.

Actually my entry today is pretty lengthy too.

How long have you been in corrections?

sunday night at the prison:

there's not much to do on graveyard shift except count five times & go around with the nurse for Pill Call.

neither is a really big deal. count is pretty self-explanitory--you walk the unit & shine yer flashlight into each cell, count the number of bodies in there. technically, yer supposed to make sure that each shape on each bunk...

What software did you use? Systran? "translators" may be used two ways: either for translating several instruction manuals from Korean to Swedish then to Italian in a very short time (provided that you're paid for that by a Lebanese who doesn't know a single word either Korean nor Italian nor Swedish); or for providing amusement to a company of playful dispositions, on a rainy afternoon, following this game's rule: first pick up random text; then have Systran translating it to random language; then translate back translation to original language; last, read resulting text out loud. Hours of fun guaranteed.

A more serious view is what you want? I think softwares like yours could be used to provide lexical information, 'cause it translates correctly (mainly) the nouns: but it seems unable to identify conjugated verbs..... and it doesn't provide these small expletive things you'll find everywhere in french sentences: , de, par, pour.... tout a, quoi! Maybe it works better the other way, from french to english: less conjugaison problems; less little words with no apparent usefulness...
tororo:
Interesting choice of interviewed persons you did!
