urg. been off the site for a while, partly because I've been attending to the last bits of my mom's stuff (& still not really close to...well, closure)...found a home for the piano, the dog & the cat, now there's just finishing up the house, & we've been kinda dragging our feet.
the piano is with some friends after much grunting & straining (& I still need to write up a sort of pre-nuptual agreement absolving them if anything happens to it or if it needs to be moved again)
I spent a couple of days tracking down every lead I could think of (& a few purely random ones) to place the dog (a very sweet & plump golden-retriever-type mutt, 9yrs old) & finally called one of the local radio stations to place an ad--turns out that the owner of the station was looking for a dog & came to take a look at her--love at first sight on his part & I got a good vibe off him & his wife.
as far as the cat, I went ahead & adopted her, bringing the population of the house to 4 kitties & li'l ol' me. I hope there isn't a coup in the offing, but so far things seem to be relatively harmonious (if they figure out how to use my ATM card I'm screwed)
work's been fairly mellow except one of the Units which had been locked down for about 2 months because of a stabbing was opened back up, & within 2 hours there was another stabbing/slashing (sharpened toothbrush), causing it to be locked down again. (it seems to me like there gets to be a bit of a cycle going--during the months of lock-down there's not much for the inmates to do but holler back & forth at each other from the safety of their cells, where the wrong thing said at the wrong moment can set the whole thing going again--because there's not much else to do but stew in the cell--)
---------
my little sister is coming back from her first year of college (on break) for a few weeks today.
I have a week-off coming up in a few days. I was supposed to go to NYC, but that's off until February (I hope)--I'll probably head up to SLC for a few days, at least.
I still haven't bought any damn Christmas presents.
blah..
