Depends on the apartment, I wouldn't think it would be a big deal if it is just a hanging.  I just know I painted mine white so that it wasn't visible (it was dark green on a white wall) and got pinged on my security deposit for it.  Ever since I am careful to read what I can and can't do to an Apt.  It looks awesome and shouldn't be a problem, for some reason last night it looked painted on so I was concerned.
