The second book is always harder than the first one.Most writers never get past the first one. They finish that first book and it's almost as if they expect the world to just burst into song as they lay that last letter down on the finished copy of their book. But nothing happens. So they start sending the book out and get repeatedly walled by rejection, over and over and again like the crashing waves of an impossible sea. Some stick it out and manage to get a book published. Others give up in the depressing battle of it, always being wounded on the losing side. For all of them though, very few both to write the second book. That first novel is such a crushing emotional experience that it's a wonder there are any writers who go on. But there are. They write the first, and they survive, and they write the second, and its not so bad. By the time they hit their fourth, its all familiar and the pain and the rejection is a welcomed response from a publishing system that acts like an angry bully when in fact it is a starving beggar needy for the best food to satiate itself. Yeah, that second book is always the hardest.
