Wacky but amusing T-day at my girlfriend AC's Taiwanese folks' household out in the Long Island town of Hewlett. My mom actually came this time which was a breakthrough because in the past she's had all these mental and circumstantial complications about coming to the folks' house for thanksgiving.
AC's bipolar sister was manic which made things livelier than usual, though pushed things a bit over the edge when she started yelling at AC and their mom over the kinds of microscopic or imaginary transgressions that bother her in front of the guests. AC's folks had a 13-year-old prodigy violinist and her mom as guests along with a couple of family friends.
I even lost my cool and snapped at my mom when she nagged me to do three things at once while I was cutting the turkey. The upside to AC's sister's lack of dinner-table tact was she would yell at them to speak English when they kept lapsing into Mandarin.
Today I am finally going to have a chance to spend some time on and hopefully finish the video from our last trip, the quest for the traces of my ancestor John Moss. An expanded DVD of this video is going to by my Xmas present to family this year.
Hope everyone had an awesome Thanksgiving. I feel kind of bad about my friend, I mentioned in my last blog. The day before he called and I found out he had nowhere to go. He's somewhat socially isolated, with his mental health issues and his father, his only family taken away as one more casualty of the U.S.'s pointless, inhuman War on Immigrants. Anyway I'm seeing him on Sunday. As much as Thanksgiving becomes a ritual, even a chore, it's good to be around someone who doesn't have what I take for granted.
