Well according to the Portland Health Department I am now a resident of Oregon. At least enough of a resident for them to cover the 20% of my health bills that Medicare doesn't. That 20% is a lot when you're a dialysis patient. $600/week for dialysis, which I would have to pay $120 of per week if Portland didn't agree that I am broke and they should help me.

Some good things about Portland MedicAid services:
- Great hospitals. The hospital I was just at was amazing. 70 channels of cable tv, decent food, clean rooms (trust me, that deserves to be mentined), great nurses, and FREE WI-FI IN EVERY ROOM. I think that deserves all caps.
Anyway, that hospital accepts the state medical insurance Now I'm much less worried about ending up somewhere crappy if/when I have to go back in to the hospital

- Dental Coverage. That's right, Portland provides its poor and needy with dental plans. Orion needs braces!

I guess those two things are the only good things I know about Portland's health system so far. Once my medical card arrives in the mail I'll start looking for new doctors. I have high hopes that I'll find much better physicians then I had with Kaiser. The doctors I've met at the dialysis unit have already impressed me with their knowledge and their bed... er, chair side manner. Hopefully I can find an ENT, a rheumatologist, and a pulminologist that are more willing to help me then the Kaiser doctors were.

Here's hoping.
