Spending Christmas Eve with mom, but not Christmas Day. We're not exchanging presents tomorrow, and I'll be spending the day with my friends while she drives off to see my aunt's family somewhere far to the north of here. It's a strange evening, and I expect tomorrow will be a stranger day.
This is the first year in a while I remember really enjoying the holidays. No presents, no forced civility between my family members and I, just the people I care about getting together every few nights to laugh and have a good time. It's the result of a year that has been much better than it has been bad. There have been lots of new sights, new experiences, new accomplishments, and most importantly - new friends.

Update: Ellen and I had a great dinner. She did actually get me Christmas presents: the Return of the King 4-disc dvd set, and The Discourses by Niccolo Machiavelli. I agreed to help her install the new video card in her computer. Now I'm going to go read.
