I am a consumer whore. Oh yes I am. I bought a pair of the Adbuster's red spot sneakers. You know, the ones made with vegatarian "leather" by hard working, unionized workers, and lacking a corporate logo. It included a pamphlet about becoming an "antipreneur" and their plan to become exactly the same as all the corporations they despise - only better because they support... Read More
To begin with, let me say if someone offers you the opportunity to have electrified needles jabbed into your throat, you should say no. I mean it. It's a lot less fun than it sounds, and I mean that literally.
"But Orion," you might say, "that doesn't sound fun at all."
To which I would say, "Well, yeah, that's my point. Geezus, did you go... Read More
Tomorrow I take the next step towards fixing my throat. There is an appointment at 1:30 tomorrow to see if my throat is strong enough to breathe without the tracheostomy. I'm pretty sure it involves needles. It seems most medical procedures do. These needles will go in my neck, and they will run electric current through the throat muscles to see how they react. Now... Thank you all who wished me a happy birthday. It was a good day, and being remembered by the friends I've made on this site helped. It wasn't exciting. I didn't go party. I didn't have a cake. I kept it simple, and made it meaningful to myself. I treated myself to a corned beef sandwich and the pub next door, and allowed myself a... Read More
I am not going to Prom. I have transfered my tickets to d23, and I'm sure he and his dates will have a great time. I am doing much better, but I don't think I'll be well enough to be walking around San Francisco in 2 weeks.
However, I'll still be down in Southern California in June for the wedding of max_traffic and Violetflux.... Read More
Today has been a pretty good day. I woke up to a phone call from my Oregon Health Plan worker telling me that my insurance is fine, and I'm allowed up to $2000/month before my Medicaid gets revoked. April, and the hospital bills associated with it, are totally covered.
Later in the day I went over to OHSU and got the staples removed from my... Read More
I found a Chinese restaurant near my house that will deliver crispy duck to my door. *sniffle* I thought this day would never come. Now I can call Portland home.
Ellen is flying up this weekend to help me out, and take me out to dinner for my birthday. My birthday isn't for another 8 days, but this weekend is close... Read More

I was raised on stories of heroes. Tales of mutants, outcasts, and the unfortunate granted the ability to change lives for the better are the mythology of my youth. Protecting the weak and standing up for ideals in the face of horror, even for those who don't appreciate the effort, this is what I grew up believing was right.
These tales still colors my perception,... Read More
I'm having a good time talking with my mom. I never saw something like this happening when I was a kid. My life is not perfect, and there are many things that have and will happen that make me unhappy. That I can sit with Ellen and chat about our lives like old friends is one of the things that makes me it all better.
Close enough?
