Yeah, it's similar here. The Red Cross lowered the waiting time to 4 months a while ago. Other places still have the one year rule around here, but since my blood is Red Cross exclusive, that doesn't matter.
I don't get tattoos/piercings on a regular basis, so I can always plan my four donations (sometimes five, if my hemoglobine is good enough) around such events.

It actually wasn't a mud slide. The road dropped out from a slide that happened back when they were building the road. It's not going to be open for one land until the first week in May and won't really be passable for a year or so.
