The information highway. Everyone bitches about people downloading and how it hurts the media industries, music, mainstream theater and of course porn. I say, good for them. The industry has become complacent to suck the average citizen dry in exchange for their product. How many of us have boxes of dvd's, cd's, and of course tapes (if your old enough). All bought for those one or two songs that we loved and couldn't do without. Then came the single or EP, which for one song mixed 5 different ways, you'd pay half as much as the whole damn thing was worth. Then came Sean Parker. AkA Napster. Was he infringing, not really. Was everyone else who seeded there tunes and movies, technically yes. However, you don't see all the companies sueing the manufacturers of blank cd, dvd, videocassettes, videotapes, or the appliances that are capable of producing these copies do you? Course not, because they are one and the same. Every, and I mean EVERY laser product pays rights to Sony, because they own the patent.
Not to mention the brand names on the actual devices and products. See it's not that everyone was sharing there property, for free, but its just that they were suddenly cut out. So they used this as an excuse to raise ticket prices. That makes sense, losers. Every notice how many empty seats there is at venues these days. Funny note, TICKETMASTER has started scalping its own tickets. They set aside a certain portion of top seats and sell them on a sister site for sometimes double the price. FUCKERS.
So the solution? Why sue and reclaim lost monies. Everyone looks at their product differently now though. No more BAAAAAA from the blind consumer sheep. However they are spending so much money trying to stop the flow of free information, that they miss the solution entirely. Easy, get off your lazy ass and market a better product. Set it aside from the downloadable version. They kinda have it with extras and free digital copies. They make it easier for us. That's a start but merely a bandaid on a dam. Stop trying to solve an unsolvable problem, and just do it better. Not to mention the free exposure. FREE advertising.
Venues? Well thats just greed. Most big shows, movies or concerts, have forgotten the fans are what drives the industry. We'd all love to support those we love, and have the experience, but times are tight, and more often it's just too steep.
So how do they do it? It's obvious, but I'm not sharing. Lowering prices is key. Volume (quantity) over margin. Greater exposure for same profit. Greater exposure means more fans, more fans means full venues. KA-CHING. As for the rest, lets see if they can figure it out.
One things for certain, with the worldwide wake up that Sean Parker gave them, and the financial ass kicking we are all giving them, it will certainly serve to cull the weak. NO longer will we tolerate half assed effort. My money stays in my pocket until I figure it's worthy. For those who figure it out, and reap the benefits first though, they should send Mr. Parker a big ol "Im sorry" card. Starting with you Lars Ulrich, you Danish Pussy.
Peace Out SG Land.
