I love this weeks homework!
Huge shout out to @missy and @rambo for always keeping it fun and interesting!
What is the most romantic thing you have done or would like done for you?
So I honestly dont know if everyone would consider this romantic, but every relationship is different I guess.
This particular relationship was hugely based on being dorky and stupid together, eating tons of junk food, and generally having a childishly good time.
I was with this guy for a few years, and our birthdays were two days apart. I am a huge lover of birthdays, and he hated them, resulting in most of our festivities being based around my likes (no matter how hard I tried to plan trips and surprises) every birthday we spent together.
Last year, I had a big birthday party planned with tons of people invited. Everyone was constantly wishing me a happy birthday and talking about my party, leaving him rather forgotten. He kept saying he liked it that way, but I could tell it was getting to him a bit. I had managed to get his birthday off work, and came up with a master plan.
First, I hit the dollar store and bought 24 balloons (he was turning 24... duh), a bunch of silly string, a few bags of assorted super hero balloons, squirt guns, birthday banners and decorations, and some silly Star Wars stuff like a kite and a big rubber ball. Side Note: He loved Star Wars so I had made a tradition of buying him a Star Wars themed present for every gift giving holiday. I even found a cute little birthday card, with Darth Vader on it!
Second, I hit up Food Maxx and bought every kind of Recess candy made, or at least that they had. Of course, because it was his favorite candy. I got a few 22oz bottles of some really nice craft beer, and a bunch of bags of chips with nacho cheese dip (our favorite junk food staple). Last but not least, I grabbed him an Apple Pie, since he was fucking insane and didn't like cake.
Last but not least, I hit up Little Caesars for our all time guilty pleasure, their pretzel pizza.
After my mission for supplies, I headed home and proceeded to put streamers up EVERYWHERE, birthday banners on almost every wall, and attempted to fill the bathroom with the super hero balloons (not even close, but a valiant effort).
I put a table cloth onto our island and set up all the candy, pie, chips, nacho cheese, and pizza. After wrapping the other presents I'd gotten him in the weeks earlier (A Home Depot gift card for the new drill he wanted, and a couple new beanies), i filled out his card, and put finishing touches on the gift table I'd set up.
Now the fun part, setting up the epic squirt gun battle I had planned.
Using some pool noodles we had from past river trips and some duct tape, I made a sort of obstacle course through the front door entry hallway, and used pillows and couch cushions to make other obstacles and tunnels through the rest of our little studio apartment. On the outside of the front door, so he'd see it before he came in, I put up a birthday banner and screwed the squirt gun to the door, fully loaded. Then I wrote him a note that went something along the lines of:
Happy Birthday!
I hope you had a good day at work, and I know you don't like birthdays so i thought of something more your speed.
your instructions are as follows:
1) drop your tool bags
2) take your weapon
3) knock before entry
4) prepare to be slaughtered
Love,
Your Babe
Luckily, I finished everything just before he showed up and was fully prepared for a full on ambush when he walked through the door. He absolutely loved it, and we ran around the house for almost 10 minutes, refilling our guns and soaking everything (and scaring our cats to death in the process).
Once we both were exhausted, soaked, and tired he started to thank me only to notice the table of goodies. Needless to say, he was the happiest I'd seen him on a birthday. He absolutely loved it all, and it was a really fun way to celebrate in our own little way.
We've seperated now, and are still on speaking terms. He recently mentioned he'd come across the note from the door, and thanked me again for such an awesome expierence.
We may not have love for each other that way anymore, and we may grow apart more over the years, but it's always going to be one of my favorite memories from that chapter in life.
Hope everyone has a beautiful day!
Stay celestial, and remember to be a fungi!
