For most of my life I have never been a big fan of ice cream toppings. But, in the past month I have been going nuts making up for lost time. Today, I had to stop for a moment to look at what I had done. I covered the remaining ice cream in the bottom of the box with a confusing array of toppings. Butterscotch...

no, I haven't, I hate to say but did you know one Mike Dougherty is on SG?
It is -15F out, -33 with the wind-chill. I am hesitant to walk a half block to get coffee, in spite of my current headache. Despite the cold, there is a certain beauty to such extreme landscapes. It is crisp, clear, and the low sun angle seems to reflect millions of diamonds off of the snow while the compacted powdery dusting crunches beneath my feet...

hey, you're cool.
medical anthropology is really interesting. i strive to be a birth anthropologist/academic. i have written a few articles on how the obstetrical practices of each generation affect the subsequent generations' obstetrical practices. i'm also interested in oral histories as they pertain to women being initiated into motherhood and sharing of birth stories.
i have a million thoughts on the medicalization of birth in western culture, i definitely don't think it is anything new. ever heard of scopolamine? that makes for an interesting conversation.

do you really know for a fact that there is alot of retired old folks there? or just cause it's florida...and that's just a general common known fact?
Some serious lack of posting going on in my journal. Getting back into the swing of things after the holidays is tough. I need some inspiration.

Hey!
Glad to see you're still around.
My life is a wee bit sloppy right now so I'm not too full of inspiration. 4U

Things have slowed down, finally. I am getting ready to make the 11 hour drive back down to Idaho to visit the family for Christmas. Whenever I am at home I end up sleeping for 12 hours straight... I can't wait. I haven't been able to fall asleep easily in weeks (4am is my regular bedtime now, and it is getting old).

Survive the cold!!!!

Aghh, I can't sleep. It is 3:40am. Someone kill me please.
Not much time to write anything other than the article I just finished and another paper for class that I am working on. Next week I will have my life back. Maybe I can read something that is not academic. Poetry? What's that?
It has been averaging -15F the past week. Not much more needs to be said about that.

The Thanksgiving Rant
Because I am in Canada this Thanksgiving, I am thankful for not having to experience the stifling repressed undertones related to in this annual celebration of colonialism. However, just because I am not celebrating the dastardly schemes colonists have imposed upon North America's aboriginal people does not mean that my family will escape my yearly Thanksgiving tirade!

Yeah, but an icepick is so messy and might leave me (even more) horribly disfigured.
Seriously man, the nights have been, shall we say, a tad odd.
I'm sure it has something to do with the Irvine Welsh book I'm reading which takes place inside the head of someone comatose.

Last night I went to see the opera The Emperor of Atlantis and the play beforehand that illustrated the making of it. The opera was composed in German concentration camp that was used as a model camp to deceive the Red Cross and was used for cultural propaganda purposes. The opera was never was performed (as it subtly made fun of the Nazis and fascism)...

I walked out into the world today and ran into a couple of friends within moments of leaving the house. It's been days since I've really tried to have much of a conversation outside of my own head... I felt a little socially retarded while talking to them. Time to get out more.
I updated a few things on my profile information.
Hmm, who says...

Must of been nice to live in DC at least from a gallery/museum point of view. It was torture only being there for one day.
I used to volunteer at an art gallery (in Buffalo NY) and every once in a while some wise-ass would suggest that abstact art was un-natural and a "learned" taste.
I still remember being on a school field trip to the Art Gallery of Ontario and seeing their Rothko for the first time.
Until then, paintings were just pictures.
When did you first discover Rothko?
Funny you mention Radiohead.
Somehow I totally missed them but a friend just gave me OK computer. What a treat to be hearing all this for the first time.
Oh, and I'm in Victoria BTW but originally from Toronto.
You?

I haven't had much time to do anything other than research and writing. I have been so obsessed with my work that I've forgot to take a shower the past couple days and I've only left the house twice; to go get coffee and beer.
Agghh, I think I am becoming one of "those people."

Wow, you're obsessed with Mark Rothko.
We should start a group or something 'cause me too.
I remember driving through DC a few years ago and having to stop cause it was just so damn hot and then discovering that the National Gallery was having a Rothko retrospective.
I had no idea it was there.
I see Bacon and Calder on your list too.
If I was in a braggin mood I'd send you a pic of my living room.
OK, I'll brag. I have 3 Rothko prints, a Bacon and a Calder mobile. (oh all fakes of course!!) .... I wish!
Kudos to your author taste too.
But how come no music??
