I also have resisted the "DaVinci Code" as a silent protest, but I'm sure if I do read it I'll feel the same.

The curious incident of the dog ing the night-time, by mark haddon. A bit short but so good I read it in a day last year and twice more since then.

I always try to push the same authors on people, and it never works out. Sometimes the best way to find a new book is to go to a used book store, and find the pile of new stuff that's waiting to be shelved. Read the synopses of a dozen books, and pick the one that leaps out at you. Could be good or bad, but what's the risk when it's three bucks and a bunch of arcane scribbling in the margins?
