Again, AGES since I blogged...
-So I went to Consett to stay with the missus after. Stayed with her and her mam (her parents are divorced) and saw her dad only once when he picked us up from a night out in Newcastle on our last night there. We had to hare it back to Liverpool because she had an issue with a submission of hers (she handed it in, had the receipt, but due to an office mix-up they didn't have it... all sorted now!) and I had a job interview. On the way home, we took a brief detour off the M5 and went to Great Harwood to have a pint with my old flatmate Joe. Good times.
-Monday 3rd August: Final Fantasy. Went to Manchester to see Final Fantasy (if you don't know, get acquainted). Got to Oxford Road train station and I was a bit early, so I looked for a pub nearby to have a pint in... and ended up in a metal pub. I'm talking dreadlocks, pierced faces, black metal jukebox shit here. Had a Newcy Brown rather quickly and left. The gig itself was amazing. Performed in a 'round' set up, and a superb setlist of new and old, the classics done in a different style. Absolutely amazing. Last train home, too.
-Wales: 9th - 15th August. Not much to tell. Jen came back with me, met the parents, we went to Big Pit and Oakwood (Google them). Had many good nights out with them.
-Mam visits: 15th - 19th August. Her friend Bid joined us on the 16th, as I had a spare bed in the flat it's only fair. She used to work with my mam and now lives on Scotland - Liverpool's halfway. Pleasant times were had, but I spent most of them re-doing my failed uni assignment.
-Pearl Jam: 17th August. Took my mam to see them as she's always wanted to, and so have I, and if worst came to worst she'd at least get two hours of oggling Eddie Vedder. Absolutely blinding gig, amazing set (including an unexpected cover of the Who's "The Real Me". Fuck yes.
-Roky Erickson: 20th August. Amazing gig. Jeff Lewis & The Junkyard (LOOOOVE) supported and then Roky played a set of pure class classics. Amazing show, well worth the trip to London and 5:35am train home for.
-Jeff Lewis & The Junkyard: 27th August. Went to Hebden Bridge in Yorkshire for this one. Know some guys there who I stayed with... Gena I'd known from the Flaming Lips messageboard for ages. Ned signed up a few years back. Ned and Gena hit it off, he went over there, they got married, she emigrated to the UK, and now they live together. Amazing story of internet marriage in my eyes. Anyway, I talked them into coming and they had a blast. It was in the Hebden Trades club which is an actual workman's club (I had a pint of real ale from a GLASS whilst watching a gig - when did that last happen?) and there was a great atmosphere. Jeff was on form.
The next day, I came straight back to Wales, which is where I'm posting from now. Hiya!!
