When in doubt, go see a film. I decided to see Downfall tonight, and took my little brother along with me, since he's a nut for WWII-era detritus.

Highly recommended; this should have won Best Foreign Film at the Oscars, I think. (Really, how many euthanasia films can you honor in one year?)

It's a very ballsy film to make - nobody wants to see Nazis humanized and portrayed as (well, some of them) sympathetic characters. Aside from that, it's just a very interesting and novel take on a war film. You don't often see an insider's perspective of the losing side, and this one paints a great picture of the Reich's, well, downfall.

I was gonna go to this cat show with my mom, aunt and uncle, but I'm a lazy bastard and slept in. My mom did bring me some premium catnip for Bella, though. She's quite the stoned little kitty now.

And I continue to put off talking to my dad. Thankfully, my mom already filled him in on the break-up details, so I don't have to recount things yet again, but still...I'm not sure why, but it's almost embarrassing to talk to people in the wake of this. It shouldn't be; it's not like I'm deficient in any way, but....eh. I should call him back. I know he'll take me out and buy me lots of expensive scottish beers.

Today's purchases: Vonnegut - Slaughterhouse Five; Frank Miller - Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, Stephen King - The Bachman Books (with the King-banned "Rage" contained within (!); Stephen King - The Gunslinger; Stephen King - The Drawing of the Three. So I could be really proud of myself for not feeding my cd addiction for two whole weeks, but then, I just spent a crapload on books (mostly used, though). Oh well, I deserve it.

Today's lyrics (I choose these cos they reminded me it could be a whole lot worse - my ex is being very nice about the splitting up of stuff): The db's - "Amplifier."

gah, I can't find them any where online. Suffice to say it's a clever little ditty about a guy who comes home and kills himself cos his ex took everything from the apartment. But it's funny. No, really.

_sarah_:
I've always wanted to see a cat show. Cats are so beautiful.

When I went through my recent breakup, my mother was invaluable. I knew she loved me unconditionally and didn't care if I cried and sounded psycho. She told me to drive up north so she could make me grilled cheese sandwiches and tuck me in. I'm 28, so it seemed silly to 'want my mommy', but it was a tempting offer. wink

Like your father, mine would have offered me a drink or two or several.

This might make me sound like a weirdo pill-popper, but you know...I prefer effexor over everything else I've tried...
