jeez... about five minutes ago I turned the channel to MTV just in time to see Good Charlotte for the first time. I'd heard of them... seen the little semi-discussions on whether or not they're 'punk' or not. All I can do is laugh. They're re-hashed Blink 182 with more hair gel and more 'punk rock icons.' Personally, I think it's fuckin' pathetic whatever you call it.

I don't know exactly what it takes to define punk or who died and left me among the grand arbiters of what is and is not punk, but fuck, i know it when i see it. After seeing that video, I'm convinved that if the Backstreet Boys went to using more guitar, and bought an appropriate amount of spiked accesories & leather and got a mohawk or five, after they put out a video America would call them punk inside two weeks. It's just a word i suppose... but i really used to like that word. It was stolen a long time ago and sold back to us as a market commodity. "Buy This T-shirt and YOU TOO can be punk for just $19"

JESUS... the whole time I've been writing this it's been on MTV2. This shit really really sucks. No wonder I don't watch it. The "Hero Will Save us/not going to stand here and wait" guys are singing on top of some "building" and doing that thing with their faces where they wrinkle them up and shake their heads to show US how INTO the song they are. FUcking funny stuff... with the aid of mute. W/out it, it's just annoying.
