Devils in 7. But Gigguere gor the Conne Smythe. Didn't see THAT coming!
What else? Been reading The Jungle lately. First fiction in an incredibly long time. Thinking back, it was probably 1996 the last time I finished a book of fiction. Very neat though. I hit a wall with non-fiction. Nothing was working so well anymore.. I'd read it... understand it... but it was like wading through quicksand. Thought I'd try something else/see if I couldn't hotwire my brain... shock it with something different... and wow... the written word makes sense again.
go figure.
Thomas Frank has a great article this month in Harpers... it's on the White House's four volume, 36lb Proposed Budget for FY2004. good stuff. He wrote One Market, Under God a few years back, which I bought, but never really read... because I can't really stand economics, no matter how sardonic the commentary.
Put in some paperwork for a raise last week. More money than I've ever made in my life if it goes through. Of course, I'm firmly convinced that it WILL go through, I'll live it up for two months and then I'll get an offer from one of the jobs that i actually WANT to do and they'll make me an offer to go do that, only they'll pay me four shillings a week and throw in eight lbs of rhubarb every third Sunday. I'll maybe get a goat as a signing bonus.
Read the e-mails from Rachel Corrie to her Mom a few days ago. That was intense. I really like her (posthumously). I was comparing the things she was writing (at 21) compared to most student stuff I get to read and just find it fairly typical that SHE is someone who gets killed, while the folks who plagiarize term papers and live on a steady diet of Buffy will go on to impact the gene pool.
