What a long day, I got handed the short end of the stick again today, but today it was more then two fold. I had two firefighters that were supposed to cover a couple of topics not show, as well as a fellow corpsmen pulling a no show so she could act as the Commander's ass clown, er um assistant.. Lucky for me I have a pretty good memory and I'm able to recall stuff after a very quck skim. One of the topics I was scheduled to cover and spent a couple hours going over got handed over to a firefighter that botched the subject pretty bad. I ended up waiting till he left and then "reviewing" the subject with my students to make sure that they got all the information they needed. I spent a little time while they were doing their quiz going over their pre-tests that were supposed to give us an idea of where they were at and all I can say is the results were a little scary, I've got my work cut out for me. When their quizes were graded after their first day's instruction my confidence in the class has grown quite a lot. They went from about a 57% average on the pre-test (having no EMT knowlege) up into the high 80's low 90's. I know the first tests are always hard since the students have no idea what to expect, and I'm hoping that their scores will continue to go up. Well I'm off I've got lesson plans to throw together as well as reading over all the chapters we're going to cover since I don't want to end up being stood up again and not have any real idea where to begin.
