Life is moving too fast and too slow at the same time.

The Air Force threw me a curve ball recently. An assignment opened up in Germany recently, for an instructor position at a NATO school. Getting it would allow me to focus on rewarding work, making conceivably rewarding relationships, and possibly focusing on new studies. I'd get to stay in yet another country for 4 years, and I would be living close to the Greek side of my family.

On the other hand, I really don't want to extend my enlistment. If I do this, I'll be looking at getting out at 34, possibly without the new degree I want. I will be neither interested in the senior Non-Commissioned rank I'd be holding by then, nor would I have punched the tickets necessary for meaningful career advancement. Should I get out then, I'd be able to easily qualify for an overseas government job with a salary that I want, but only if I have my school wrapped up. Should I not have my school wrapped up, I'm back to square one, but 4 years older. Not good.

I can't wait until December. However my decisions play out, exciting times should be coming soon.

That's a lot on your plate, I can understand your hesitation to take the position. Is there any way that you could finish up school before you have to decide? That sounds like the major factor right now.

It's evident the AF values you, which is good.
But if you can't be sure you'll be where you want to be? I'm 44, and I regret a lot of decisions that didn't take me forward. "Back to square one" sucks, big time.
Choose early, would be my advice. (Not, you will note, "leave early" smile )
