I'm glad you no longer have to deal with the extended family. My family had this HUGE family reunion every year, either in San Jose or my Filipino grandmother's home in a mobile home park. The event was usually centered around her, her being the matriarch and all, and all these aunts and uncles and all seventy-something grandchildren would show up and it'd be this huge, friendly affair.
Well, after she died when a surgeon f*cked her up in San Jose, they stopped. Another one was planned this year, in San Jose, in August, but minor issues over money and dealing with her poseesions and assets in death led to HUGE fights over the summer, mostly involving my Aunt Cora and my father, who took care of most of her bills while she lived. Well, after a huge extended fight between aunts, the reunion was abruptly cancelled about a week ago. My parents, always one to preach wine and roses and hide the truth, said they couldn't afford the van to drive up there, but my sisters and I knew better. We pay attention.
I could go into a whole other topic on putting up a pleasant front and not addressing family issues and using them as fodder for mindgames and crap but I'm not gonna. I'm tired from work and school and i do NO want to see another comment erased after I hit send.
