Jeeze... These deals are getting farther and farther apart. Oh well...

Yesterday I passed 3,000 miles on the bike for the year. Twice as much as all of last year. And, today I finally hit my goal of 160 pounds. The same weight I was my junior year of high school. Just over 2 years to drop 70 pounds. It took a while, what with all the cheating and, well, beer. But, I'm patient. Very, apparently.

Also, I had been wondering for a while if I was still in the right occupation. A few students are making Brass Workshop (the afterschool class I teach) no longer fun, and I started second guessing myself. Playing wasn't even much fun anymore, I was just sick of classical and symphony work.

Then, along came Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday, I read Brahms Symphony No 2 and Tragic Overture with Peninsula Symphony, then Wednesday I read Sibelius' Violin Concerto, Gillis' Tulsa, and Tchaikovsky's Symphony No 6. Holy shit. Tchaik 6 is awesome. Plus, I completely forgot that the principle trombone player was sitting out this set, so I got principle.

So, I am back to loving what I do. It took a few long and rough bike rides to clear my head and get the annoying students that don't care out, and a couple pieces of music to get my completely back in the game.

Good stuff.

I think any artist gets those momentary lapses in "holy hell, do I really wanna keep doing this????" It's those moments of doubt that keep bringing us back with stronger commitment than before. Besides, even I know that you're really a musician all the way to your toes. You just needed a reminder.

Congratulations about your weight and all the biking! Getting back to "the old weight" is fantastic for the self confidence, isn't it? After all the weight loss and the tummy tuck to rid of all the "extra leftovers", I'm back to the same size as college and I actually went out and bought a new swimsuit for the first time in 15 years! I haven't committed NEARLY the amount of time to training and exercise that you have, but I know you've been steadily plugging away at this for a long time now. Your hard work has paid off!!! woo hoo! Now we just need pictures..... wink
