This shall be a three parter. Or four. Havent decided. Enjoy.

Part I:

So, Im back from DC. Actually, Ive been back for a few days, but Im a bit slow getting back into the swing of things. Lots of shit happened this weekend, and its all still a bit of a whirlwind in my noodle. Ill start from the beginning.

I went to DC to see some college friends that I have not seen for a while, and to see the sights. Id never been there, so I took this opportunity to check it out. Ill just start off by saying that right from the start, that city proved itself to be outrageously bad ass.

I saw the sights, the National Mall, a few museums in the Smithsonian, and so forth. But thats not why I was there. Sure its part of it, its always nice to see some of the famous shit when you visit a new city, but thats not what I want to see. I want to see what the locals see. I want to do what they do. Luckily, I had friends there to show me around.

The short list of things: The best fucking chili Ive ever had. You folks on the East Coast have it set. The Hard Times Chili Caf gave me two of the best meals I think Ive had in a long time, maybe since I went to Germany several years ago. Holy crap that place was GOOD. Pictures:

Part II:

Then I saw Dan Auerbach at the 9:30 club in DC. Wow. Its always nice to find new music that will open your eyes to a new sound, but this was different. This would be up at the top of the list of all-time finds. Right there with Flogging Molly, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Martin Martini and the Bone Palace Orchestra, and Medeski Martin and Wood. It was possibly one of the best live shows Ive seen in many, many years. Best thing, hes playing again in San Fran at Bimbos on March 13th! Pictures:

Part III:

Then we went to a coffee shop/lounge called Tryst. My local DC friends had never been there, but a friend from home told me I had to check it out. It was amazing. The home of the Dufrain. A Guinness with a shot of espresso. Wow. This place was the ULTIMATE hang, perfect for someone like me who doesnt like the club/dancing scene, hates bars full of tools and hoochies, and just likes to chill comfortably and chat with friends. This place was it. Incredible.

Another thing happened to me this weekend. I experienced snow. Yeah I know, be surprised. Im 32, and the only snow experiences Ive had where camping at high altitude in the summer and seeing snow still on the ground, or driving on Highway 80 from the Bay Area to Reno and seeing snow on the ground up there. Never had I seen it fall in an actual storm. Never had I walked through fresh powder. Somehow, it made the cold go away. I felt like an 8 year old, waking up to his first white Christmas.

Part IV:

However, this weekend had an un-fore-seen development. Actually, not so un-fore-seen. Whenever I do something out of the ordinary, a large trip, a long unusual bike ride, a new gig, a big party, whatever, I always daydream a bit about scenarios. Wouldnt it be cool if such-and-such happened? I would love it if I was able to

Well, it sort of did. One of those scenarios was a simple one, but I did not expect it to happen. I just thought how neat it would be to watch a movie while cuddling on the couch with one of the friends I was visiting. Well, the first night that happened. And it kept getting better after that. Im still explaining away the hickies on my neck. (Shes a biter!)

The funny thing about all this is that I have known her for years. About 10 of them. When I first met her, she was good friends with a long time girlfriend of mine. That relationship was a tough one, she probably was the one (I thought that for years after I fucked up and did not try hard enough to save the relationship). And her friend was someone I did NOT get along with. I, at times, loathed going to hang out with her. We would argue about anything, or nothing. I thought she was a stubborn, heartless, self-centered, argumentative bitch. Then I broke up with said one, and a few months later she broke up with her man. Then she moved to DC and we kind of lost touch for several years. She came out to visit last fall, and we had an incredible time, and for some strange reason, there seemed to be a chemistry between us. She wasnt the stubborn, heartless, self-centered, argumentative bitch I remembered. She was fun? So, I decided to go out to DC to visit and see the sights of a city Id never seen before. And pretty much right away we hit it off. The weekend was absolutely incredible. Saturday was probably the best day I have experienced in years. And I definitely did not want to leave.

Anywho, thats the fun of my weekend. Now I get to ponder just what the hell my future has for me. Fun times, no doubt.
