I didn't write a review. I simply wasn't able to. I didn't understand it. I didn't know what to write. And, I especially came to your lecture in order to prepare myself.

This from the guy that normally writes reviews for one of the Symphonies. "I didn't understand". Really? It's music dude. There isn't always something to "understand". Sometimes music is just there to be enjoyed as itself, not as a greater thing resembling, reminiscing, or reminding us of other things. Sometimes it's just what it is, beautiful (or painful, whatever) sounds mixed together to make: Music.

Granted, that's not what this was, but still. It's happened before, it will happen again. People are faced with something totally different than what they are used to, and they freak out. Heaven forbid I leave my comfort zone to enjoy something new and foreign for once!

On another thought, you are a professional music critic. "I didn't understand" should never be an excuse to not critique something. Sounds more like a cop-out to me. And, yet another reason to discard and ignore what any and every "critic" tells us.

Let's think about this for a second. There are people out there who's sole job is to tell people their opinions about some work of art so those people can decide if they will see/like it themselves. Meh. Sounds like someone people should ignore, rather than use as a means of whether or not to enjoy something for themselves.

And I won't even get into awards shows for art here. That's an essay in itself.
