I'm still around.
Just not much to write about.
The semester is well on it's way, which means my schedule is boringly consistent. Teach high school rehearsal, teach private lessons, go to my rehearsals, Earthquakes away for a few weeks. Bored.
I have felt that neat feeling lately, the one that fall is approaching. The smell, the feel, the aura in the air, it's on...

Another long ass weekend. Man, my posts on here seem to be becoming just that. Weekend updates. Oh well. I guess that just means I have kickass weekends.

I had never even seen The Big Lebowski until just this year, if you can believe it. Instant fave! I love that you guys have a whole festival dedicated to it. That...just....rocks.
Hey your Extra Action folks totally remind me of our very own March Fourth Marching Band. I always said that if SG had a marching band, it would look like March Fourth.
Did they try to recruit you?
Would you do it, if they did?

Long weekend. Let's see. The combobulated version.
Friday, lessons and BBQ, which meant beers and food. Saturday, Earthquakes game (another win, baby!!) which meant beer and food. More beer than food. By a lot. Sunday BBQ, mini-pseudo-whathaveyou gig, lessons, then out with a kick ass old friend from college. Who, I might add, is only here till tomorrow, damnit. Not enough time, girl, not enough...

Ok time to write.
Things are going well, now that my schedule is kinda slowly but surely heading back into the world of normality. Fall schedule is almost down, and it looks like it won't be as crazy as I thought. I just love how things line up without much thought or work. Every single weekend this fall is full, taken up with marching band...

So, band camp is going well, but something interesting happened last night that I must get out.
First off, I wore my Liverpool FC soccer jersey to Voodoo Lounge, and TWO guys commented on it. One was a big soccer fan and routed for Benfica, that's coo, the other a Man U (fuck Man U!!) fan who knew the name on the back (Ryan Babel,...

It seems my blogs 'round here are becoming few and far between. Ah well. So it goes, so it goes.
Anyway, it's been a long and taxing month. West Side Story, dogsitting a spastic pitbull mix, week 1 of camp done, the Earthquakes game last night, and then today. An off day! Then 9 to 9's next week.
About that Earthquakes game.. Holy craps! We...

You're the second person on my friends list that mentioned that Earthquakes game! Small world... Sabine8 was there too!
Ahh, hell week! The memories come flooding back. I'm in my own personal hell and it's called 'FUCKING ANTIGONE!!!!" I have a chorus of 8 men, 4 of whom are in way over their musical heads. My entire bass section is struggling and pulling us all way behind schedule. Have you ever felt like you've ordered the moon and got delivered cheese? Yeah, well, that's my basses. They pretty much skated through their auditions, did just fine with that, but now that we're deep in the rehearsal process it's evident that they are in over their heads far beyond their abilities. Shame on me for thinking: "No problem! I'm a teacher! They seem teachable. I'll just do what I do and TEACH." Unfortunately, it's not going too well and I'm about ready to hook up a vodka IV any minute now. Maybe I'll just settle for one of those tall boys you mentioned earlier.
But! all complaining aside.... are you digging on the Olympics as much as I am. I'm pretty much a junkie for them. I'm up til 2 a.m. consistently watching badminton and other bizarre and useless stuff. What is it about the Olympics that is so captivating???
Good luck with your hell week. Have fun! (you know you will!)

Touche, The Onion, touche.
Capricorn December 22 - January 19
You can kick and scream and flail around all you want, but it's not going to change the fact that you never learned how to dance.

Oopsie, I can't seem to link to your "onion"!
Sweat. Dripping into my eyes.
Sounds like the beginning to some bad 80's power ballad. Blah.
Anywho, as I really do sit here waiting patiently for the sweat to stop pouring out of me, I'll ramble a bit. Unfortunately I'm out of beer, or else I'd pour an Arrogant Bastard. Ah well, water will have to do.
So, ramblings. A few things have been going...

Well, my summer just got shorter. Looks like some of those long bike rides I had planned might have to wait. The centuries, might not happen at all now.
Originally, with both symphonies off for some time and all my lessons on Mondays and Tuesdays, I had so much time it was crazy. Well, that all changed.
Some things didn't change, they just came, like...

West Side Story seriously rocks. I played it as a high schooler and remember the fun of trying to help one of my fellow orchestra members wrap her head around "America". ONE, two, three, FOUR, five, six, ONE and TWO and THREE and........ she never quite got it. I just wanted to sick Rita Moreno on her for fun.
That kitty in my last blog is FOUR years old! He's just a little sausage cat -- never got very big but he's kind of chunky and muscular. I'm still waiting for the "little terror" phase to wear off.
I'm headed into my own sets of rehearsals soon, too. I've been the music director for Classic Greek Theatre of Oregon off and on for the past six years or so and, once again, I've acquiesced and said I'd do it. I've been pleading for the score for nearly two weeks (read throughs begin on the 28th) and so far nobody has coughed it up. Yeah...... it's gonna be one of THOSE kinds of shows, I'm afraid. *sigh*
Have fun with all the music and get those rides in when you can. I just saw "back to school" ads on TV and it was a sad reminder that summer is practically halfway gone! Say it isn't so!

I enjoyed my dirty tecate. I don't know what those guys were even talking about.
Always.
I've had some great rides lately, so having one bad one isn't so bad. Just wish it wasn't the way this one went.
About 7 miles into a road ride I noticed my chain was jumping, so I stopped to look at it, and a pin from one of the links had worked its way loose. No problem, that's why I carry a chain...

If only more folks like that existed..... indeed! Sounds like you're enjoying a good summer and getting out to play a lot. Still have your teaching schedule massaged to perfection? It kinda sounds like it!
Those of us who are non-teachers and are stuck in office buildings 50 hours a week just wanna be you right about now. Summer days are a limited resource. Glad you're spending well.
Yesterday was a tough day. Went to Teske's Germania for the Euro 08 Final. The best place around here to watch it, really the only traditional German bar/restaurant, and the first place we decided to watch the game if and when Germany made the finals.
They did, we went, and at 10:30am I had the first liter of Spaten Oktoberfest. The game started at 11:45,...

Three random thoughts of the day.
1. Went to Gilroy last night to hang with cousins. The wildfire was coming over the hilltop outside of town, and the wind was blowing directly towards his house. So, while we were creating the wonderful goodness that is Beer Brauts, we were sporadically showered with ash. It's a neat experience, coupled with a neat smell, for about either...

Mmmmm, Gilroy! I used to go to the Garlic Festival every year when I was in college. I haven't been there in many years though. I might have to add that to the travel plans for 2009.....
Like you, I love the heat too. I say BRING IT ON! but there truly are times when the body says "enough already" and you were probably wise to heed the call and back it down. As for the no red meat thing, I eliminated that from the diet nearly 15 years ago and never felt better. Eventually I went vegetarian (but I still do eggs & dairy) but I can't say my body misses meat much at all. Just be sure your protein intake stays suffiently stable, especially with all the physical activity you do.
Yikes, I just realized how parental that last bit sounded. I'll just be quiet now and go back to grieving the loss of George Carlin.
YouTube is aflame with his stuff right now.

I'm still half way through the run of Antigone and it's going fairly well. I think the musicians and the actors have finally made peace with one another and with me. I don't feel the urge to murder any longer.....just injure.
Are you doing marching band with your high schoolers? THAT was how I always knew it was fall when I was growing up. When the band uniforms got checked out and the permission slips started flying around. The Halloween Concert with the symphony sounds cool. I wish our local wind symphony would do something like that. I think they're doing something Gershwin-y in October.... random!!!
Take care and enjoy that pre-fall weather!
