Yesterday was an awesome day. Incredible. Did my first Mt. Hamilton ride of the year and decided to make it harder. I took my normal route, which included a 500 foot climb at 6.5%, an 1800 foot climb at 10.5%, and the upper half of Mt Hamilton, a 12 mile, 3000+ foot, 5% climb....

That is awesome! Good for you for doing the hard work a little early. You've been really committed to a better lifestyle and it's cool that the discipline thing is paying off and becoming a choice rather than a chore. Sounds like you're having some fun while you're at it, too.

I think it would be quite something to have you as a teacher. Your students are pretty lucky. Sounds like youv'e got your shit together in lots of ways and the fact that you love what you do probably transates really well to those high schoolers. Good for you. That's just awesome. Thanks for re-posting this fantastic entry. Christmas takes on so many shapes throughout our lives and it's always kind of comforting to hear other people's experiences with it. In a way, Christmas wouldn't really BE christmas unless it underwent some sort of evolutionary process with each of us.
