After an extended absence for exams and such, I am back to actually interacting with this site (instead of using it almost exclusively for peeping at the new sets when I have a spare minute). It would seem that I will be spending the Fall semester (and forward) in Charleston, SC. College of Charleston has graciously thrown open their doors, and I believe I will be accepting. How odd to be moving somewhere warmer rather than colder! Me, who is terribly allergic to fire ants and who hates the heat, moving farther South. But to such a city that it seems worth it and even exciting.

It's bittersweet news, though, for all that will have to be left behind - inevitably. I'm leaving some people who are very dear to me, people who I will most likely never see again in a meaningful way. But such is the way things fall...and change can't be delayed according to momentary affections. Or so I tell myself to make the transition easier. On the otherhand, my mother is thrilled that I will be a mere 6 hours away instead of across the country. And honestly, I'm rather glad that I'll get to come home more than twice in a year.

I'm planning on spending the summer writing - that is, holing myself up in the upstairs room in our huge apartment house and tapping away at the typewriter until something worthwhile materializes. Perhaps I'll post the things that seem interesting. The final summer in Chapel Hill...and dammit it, it will be productive.

Off now to think and mope and celebrate - so many mixed emotions, and a period of time until the move that seems to loom and stretch but which at the same time feels all too short.

Welcome back!

I have a friend who will be leaving at the end of the summer, either to grad school or a job in Florida, and we understand how hard it can be to keep relationships. The advice I gave her was this: As long as an effort is made, you will always have them. A simple email, maybe phone call, and trip now and then will keep you in that person's life. Of course, both sides will have to put forth some effort, but if it is important, then it can happen. Maybe not the greatest advice in the world, but I do believe it is possible.

On another note, I'd also like to read anything you write, too.
