I live in california so I don't have a whole lot of riding-in-snow experience. I think that you'd want a dual sport for that sort of thing. Perhaps a Honda XR650L or an XR650R with a lighting kit and a licence plate. You want a bike that won't sustain expensive damage when it falls over and you want something nice and light so you can try to avoid falling over in the first place.
