Today, two of the girls in my office whipped their knickers off in front of me. This is a true fact. Just a shame it's not half as interesting as it sounds. Ah well. Such is the life of Onibaba.

Tonight, I'm being taken out to a previously notorious pub for pre-birthday drinkies by my chums. This is great news, although I'm enormously tired after a busy week and too many late nights after watching Dogville, Manderlay (the follow-up), several Val Lewton films, and the entire Pinky Violence collection. I enjoyed all of them, although I always have mixed feelings about Lars Von Trier's work. Manderlay boast a plot equally as controversial as Dogville's, and the conclusion is most interesting - It can alter readings of the previous film in quite a significant way. I await the third movie with baited trousers.

So, what did I learn today? I learnt that the story I started the other day is excellent. Much like most of my recent writing, it is an evil trick on the reader. It starts off jolly enough, but soon you begin to realise that there's quite a serious side to all the laughter. It will all end in tears. This is why I enjoy writing for kids - the boundries of the imagination enable you to mix surreal madcap silly events with a gradually developing plot that carries a bitter sting. The nice idea of the book draws them in, the humour gets them reading, and the depth of character gets them caring. I know I'm going to have to go through and tone a few things down by the time my agent drags his sleazy eyes across my tea-stained pages, but I don't care. It's what I love doing.

So there. bok
