Our apartment was leased out from under us.
Last week, Dena and I went into Apartment Finders, signed the lease, and I gave them nine hundred and eighty of my dollars. Which is a hell of a lot of money to me.
We were told that the owner would send the signed lease back to us, that my money secured the apartment, and we were in the room as they called the apartment owners to tell them that it had been leased.
Well today, out of the I've-been-bragging-about-the-place blue, they called Dena and told her that someone else had leased it.
With no regards for the fact that we put down a bloody security deposit, and that I've not been able to eat because I have no money in the bank until my next paycheck.
I know for a fact that there is nothing else in our pricerange that suits our needs. Our apartment finder agent had taken us to every place within our pricerange, and honestly, some were rotting to the ground. One of them looked likethe kind of house where a murder had been committed 50 years ago, and every subsequent attempted inhabitant was cursed to die. One of them looked like the kind of place where you might go to shoot up heroin and sell your body for crack money if you were blind, deaf, and olfactory challenged, and oh yeah, really desperate.
Worst part though, is I think we have no legal recourse. The building owner hadn't sent the lease back to us, so, despite the huge amount of money that I'd say makes us Under Contract, I think they can claim we weren't official yet.
