Last year, I promised myself that I would make it to Comic Con this year. At the time I had no idea I would be moving halfway across the country to San Francisco at the beginning of this year. Unfortunately, due to limited time and funds, I was unable to make it this year, and I’m pretty bummed out about it. This is further exasperated by the plethora of amazing cosplay photos that keep rolling into my feed on every single social media platform I’m on.
Of course, I can’t complain about this forever, as it is still tons of fun to see so many awesome cosplays, even if only through photos this year. It’s been really motivating and inspiring! I have been really wanting to get back into cosplay for a while now. I started cosplaying around 16, with my first convention being A-kon in Dallas where I cosplayed Temari from Naruto. I went for many years in a row, until I started to get too busy with life and modeling. I’m now at a place in my life where I have the money, and I can justify it taking up so much time because cosplaying fits into what I am already doing. I have to say, that is a pretty fantastic realization.
As I said, my first cosplay was Temari from Naruto (back when I didn’t understand the importance of wigs in cosplay…). I have also cosplayed Saya Otonashi from Blood+, Rosiel from Angel Sanctuary, and Soi Fon from Bleach. I also made most of the other cosplays that you see my past cosplay partner, Leah, wearing. In the past, I was lucky enough to be cosplaying with the help of budget from my mum. That on top of my limited sewing abilities meant I had to cut corners here and there, but I think overall I was decent. :P Now that I don’t have to worry about who is paying for my cosplays, and I am much more skilled at sewing, I have the chance to go all out!
I’m working on the list of people I want to cosplay in the future. I think number one is going to be Sailor Mars! I have wanted to cosplay her for so long now, and never felt I had the skill to create a really good cosplay. While hunting down my old cosplay photos, I even found forum posts from many years ago on Cosplay.com where I was talking about wanting to cosplay her. Of course, I’m going to be a purple-haired Sailor Mars (close enough…). ;)
Other than Mars, I’ve been trying to come up with a solid list of purple-haired bad ass characters I could potentially cosplay… And non-purple haired characters too, because wigs are a thing. Here is my list so far. PLEASE feel free to leave me recommendations. ;)
