Lost an old family friend. I was out boozin' it up with dollface, and I got a call from my ex-wife in Spain, letting me know that Chris passed.
Chris was a true gem. He was one of the warmest and most friendly people I've ever met. My wife and I used to go to his house on Christmas Eve every year just to hang out with their huge (Greek) family for the night.
He was a State Representative, and an 8-term County Commisioner of Dallas. When his oldest daughter was born (1972), he became the first man allowed in the delivery room at Baylor Hospital. He insisted, and they weren't about to tell him no.
Once, a campaign manager for an opponent came up to him in a restaurant and gave him a campaign contribution right there, explaining only that Chris was "a good man."
His whole family came to my wedding.
He and his second daughter came to my mother's memorial service. I desperately wish I could return the favor.
I weep.
