I've fucking had it with baking cookies, I can tell you that.

Baking is really a pain in the ass compared to cooking. In cooking, you just have to know the basic rules of what does and doesn't work, and within those rules you can just goof around and make tasty stuff out of it. Baking requires far too much precision for me ... if things aren't perfect, your product is worthless.

Anyways, luckily today we moved on from cookies (I don't even want to think about how many cookies I made in those first 2 days) to tarts. Tarts I could relate to a lot more; I mean, those basic doughs aren't all that touchy, and you can get weird with custards and such; so that's good times.

Tonight there's a big chick-rock show at Double Door, I think I'm gonna hit that ... but first, I gotta scrounge up some grub.

so are you taking cooking classes, or is this a work-related baking fest? i'm learning the ins and outs of bread. i've already had one disasterous bread bowl incident...the recipe leaves the dough too dry, and trying to compensate is hit-or-miss. at this very moment attempt no. 2 is rising in the bread machine.

and i loooove tarts, especially custard tarts. you'll have to share favorite recipes or something. i'm thinking about taking a cooking class this summer. how much fun can it be to make food and then get to eat it, all for college credit? wink

oh my god that sounds fabulous. thank you! and good luck with your culinary degree...i've always toyed with the idea of someday opening my own restaraunt, but i'm really not so great at cooking, so it is a fantasy and nothing more. =)
