Not a single member of my family called to wish me a merry Christmas today.

Lame.

I mean, I'm usually the one that makes the calls, and I'm the one that gets people together in the same place when I go back to visit and such. But they're all there in the same city, and I'm the one that's 1500 miles away, working all day and being lonely. I don't think it's too much to expect that they might think I'd really like to hear from them on a day like today, instead of expecting me to do it.

At least my girlfriend called. She's out of town visiting her family for a few days. If she hadn't called, I'd have really been upset. Damn.

aww shit, holmes. that is a terrible feeling. i spent one christmas season in chicago all alone. i completely understood how the suicide rate is higher at that time of year. i went to greektown that lonely christmas eve to pick up dinner and was accosted by a homeless man and his racist-laden drunken rants. i was just trying not to cry in front of him as i waited for the bus. the whole bus ride home though, i had tears streaming down my face. if it wasn't for good friends like Peter from the Pontiac, I would have spent the last two Christmases and Thanksgivings alone.

If you and I are in the same city, you will never have to be alone for Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Years, birthdays, whatever. all you gotta do is call. my friends ARE my family!

which reminds me, I am still free for brunch on sunday.
