So far, so good!
Friday started out mellow, which I very much needed, by way of me sitting at a laundry/cafe place washing all my clothes and linens and having a sandwich and tea. A friend popped in for a bit to chat, but mostly I sat there and read and relaxed.
That afternoon I met up with another friend and went to check out a hotrod art show that was on near here; some really cool stuff in there. After that, had a couple beers, then headed home to prepare for the next round.
So that night I met up with a couple other friends for a few drinks, then headed downtown for another art / rock show, where a friend of mine had some stuff hanging, and some other people I knew were playing; that was all fun, good art, free booze, and good music! After that, shot back to the bar for last call and, as usual, stayed until some ungodly hour before catching a diner breakfast on the way home.
Saturday I staggered out of bed near 2pm, cleaned up, and headed back downtown for the big benefit gig. Quite a few friends and acquaintances in attendence, lots of great hotrods out there, some wicked art, and some killer bands -- highlights for me were Skeetertruck and the Dickies, but there were plenty other hot acts. I picked up a hand-pinstriped toolbox and won a silent auction on a cool print of a pin-up chick in a Deuce roadster. After that, of course, back to the bar on the way home, followed by diner breakfast with a couple of the regs.
And Sunday continued the fun! Slept in a bit, then headed to the east side, and got to hang out with my buddy H for the first time in ages, as he's been in Germany since January. So, spent the arvo at his drinking beer, playing with his puppy, and cooking steaks and potatoes. Impossible to complain.
After that I had a date with a girl I met a couple weeks ago; we ran down to Long Beach to catch some bands playing ... highlights were The Morning 40 Federation and The Husbands. I do think I'll be seeing this girl again.
Today things are a little up in the air; I might be running up north to see my best friend from Chicago up in Ventura, or I might go out with a couple friends from the bar. Tomorrow when dollface lands, we're going to run up north to Santa Barbara via the PCH for the scenic drive, then back down through the mountains a bit, stopping in Ventura to catch up with Jason anyways, but there's nothing wrong with making 2 trips up that way -- it's a fun drive! So we'll see -- but all in all, the birthday weekend is a smash hit!
