Cruised up the PCH to Ventura this afternoon
My best friend and former flatmate from Chicago was in town for work, so I rolled up to hang out a bit.
Man .... what a gorgeous drive that can be. Traffic was light, road was fun and twisty, look just to your left to see the ocean just hanging out right there next to you --- awesome.
I got into Ventura and all the direction I had gotten from him was that he was somewhere down on Main St.
So I'm rolling down Main St. and he calls, says he's right at Main and Olive. I look up at the streetsign, and I'm at Olive. I look to my left and he's standing under a tree across the street. Perfect.
So we went into this restaurant bar called the Sportsman. I'm not sure I can do this place justice right now; maybe later. Loungey atmosphere, steak & seafood kind of place, was probably upscale at some point in its life. We sat in the bar and drank with the old cats who were watching lotto numbers come in on the TV. The back bar was a big etched mirror covered with images of topless cowgirls riding horses, wielding six-shooters, that kind of thing.
So after a couple beers we wander outside to discover that we are in the middle of a classic car show. I took quite a few pics on the ol' camera phone, uploaded them here. There was some hot machinery, there.
A couple of the guys that work at the company that is J's client and the reason he's out here met up with us. We checked out the cars for a good while, as more kept rolling in, and then drug ourselves back into the Sportsman for a couple more beers before heading down the street for sushi. One of the guys picked up the tab, he'll expense it. Gotta love free food.
