This weekend marked the 20th anniversary of one of the best follow-ups in Hip-Hop history -- Nas' "It Was Written." Time has a way of putting things in its proper perspective. When this dropped, a lot of "purists" considered this a "sellout" album due to its different sound from the seminal "Illmatic." These days, that viewpoint sounds laughable. Songs like "The Messeage," "Take It In Blood," "Suspects" etc. as album cuts? "I Ruled the World" and "Street Dreams" as your singles? There are rappers today that one of these songs alone would be considered a career highlight.
For many, this was their first introduction to Nas' legendary lyricism. I was 14 when this dropped and it remains one of my favorite Nas projects.
What are your favorite songs from this album?
