Big plans today.
I'm going to see "The Best and the Brightest" (starring Neil Patrick Harris) at the Bell House tonight. Jonathan Coulton is playing a set before the film starts, and if I'm not mistaken John Hodgman will be there after the film! For those of you who think you don't know John Hodgman, let me tell you where you do know him from.

- He plays the deranged millionaire in They Might Be Giants' "Venue Songs" DVD.
- He is a Daily Show senior correspondent.
- He has been in movies and has had guest spots on numerous television shows, most notably the HBO series "Bored to Death."
- He has, to date, written two books: Areas of My Expertise and More Information Than You Require.
- Oh, and almost everyone who knows Hodgman knows him as the PC in the popular Mac commercials!

Furthermore, I have invited a girl who I believe likes me at least somewhat as my companion for this event
I expect to enjoy myself immensely.
What could go wrong, you ask?
I will not keep you in suspense. I believe I am coming down with what is commonly referred to as strep throat. This could not be happening at a worse time, so it goes without saying that it's happening to me. I like to describe myself as as optimistic agnostic; I don't know if there is a god, but it's more reassuring to believe that there is (or was) a creator that it is to believe we are the products of a cosmic accident. If there is a god, I like to think he's out to get me. I mean, I do work at a school. I get sick all the time as a result? But now? With strep? when I'm out of sick days? When I'm supposed to attend a film with a girl I might have a shot with?
Dickslap.
If anyone reads this, I plan to post an original poem in the next installment.
Wish me luck and good health. Suerte y salud.

Given the pretty groovy night I had, this is a really great song to cap it off.
