You know, I've always hated the admonishment to not say anything if you can't say something nice. Growing up with my family, it was more: if you don't have anything nice to say, well, people need to grow thicker skins, fucking pansies.

I think I'm in slight disagreement with you. My motto is, "If you don't have anything nice to say, you can go fuck yourself."
volks:
I say what I think, nice or not! Thanks for coming out last night. It's been a long time.

Fun fact: sake kicks my ass in very small quantities. Given my ability to drink, this is mystifying.

I cannot picture that.

That's...unsurprising, actually.

And now depression sets in. I'll have to ride this worn-out, I-don't-give-a-fuck feeling until I spring out of it. Tedious.

I spent time in the major northern cities of Italy last time. This time I'm really interested in Puglia.

Well yeah, but that's good everywhere.

This morning I made a recruiter who has been after me hot and heavy say "oh" in a dispirited voice when he asked me my current salary. This after his company and he had led every conversation with how they were willing to offer top dollar. I got a laugh out of that.

Also, I have had the most bizarre urge to get a new...

Well okay, I suppose there's no harm in letting a person think.

Real life today has been as delightfully asinine as online life. Quite a few of my oldest real-life friends are very mad at me because I refuse to play fantasy football this year. You'd think that since I've won the league five years running and haven't lost a game in two years, they'd be happy to not have to compete with me. Apparently not. Not...

Oh yes, it's just so hard having to go see movies all the time. I really feel for you there. I don't know if I could handle it.

That's one of my favorite episodes, it was on yesterday. I went to class saying that stuff over and over again, no one got it.

It was great.

I bought a key ring at Tiffany & Co. today. I worry myself some days.

There's a Tiffany's in Seattle? Ya learn something new every day.

Hey, at least it's not jewelry. THEN I'd worry about you.

Until this last one I would've been able to say that's never been a danger... but Ben Folds was co-headlining so there were fratboys aplenty.

I'm lucky I got out alive.

Wearing a pink dress shirt.

Another weekend. Miles driven, food made, errands run. I like the formula of my weekends.

The checker at Whole Foods this morning was dubious about my eating of pho for brunch on Sunday morning, but as soon as I told her it's common in Vietnam, it all made sense to her.

I got stopped three times by people to ask abut my car today. I...

I know I do, and I was doing better at it for a little while.

You have resurfaced the craving I have had for pho since May. Thanks a lot.

Weird, weird day in my little suburb.

A homeless guy yelled at me when I told him that I didn't have any cash. Apparently, he couldn't imagine how anyone that actually had money wouldn't be carrying physical money. I thought about telling him how poorly the police on this side of Lake Washington treat vagrants, but I figured he'd learn soon enough.

Just now, I...

You should have asked the bum if he took credit.

As it pertains to the second part, I don't possess your restraint. I envy you.

Twice in the last two weeks I've come home feeling under the weather only to fall asleep for three hours or so. Then, I wake up with every muscle aching, cold sweat, and burning hot skin. I figure that it's just my body reacting to the laissez faire approach I take to my health when ennui or depression sets in.

I had one of those...

A typical response from me would have been, "Who gives a shit?"

But that's me.

"Weird" meaning "outside that with which I am familiar."

So why is that a question that bothers you, anyway?

It's hot, and I'm bored. I feel vaguely paranoid--like people don't like me anymore and won't tell me to my face. Relationships with other people are strained and idiosyncratic.

Oddly, I'm amused by this because I know my boredom is at the root of most of it--real and imagined. As soon as the ennui passes, I'll be right as rain.

The people in my office are bizarre and I find them fascinating (actually, I also kind of like them). I want to see them in a social situation, and meet their spouses, and from what I've heard, there is usually a lot of drinking involved. I think it should be interesting.
