I saw an iMix in the iTunes music store purporting to be "The Sound of the Future". What does the future sound like, you might ask. A lot like the current playlist on any "alternative" radio station you might stumble onto in a major city. Kasabian, Franz Ferdinand, Furureheads, Kaiser Chiefs, and the Bloc Party were the stalwarts of the list. I'm all for interesting new music--I have the latest albums by all of the above plus a few newer--but I can't help but have the creeping notion there's some kid out there acting hipper-than-thou for knowing these bands.
I read J.G. Ballard's Crash on the bus ride to work today. You may be asking why I was riding the bus, and I'd have two words for you: yuppie messiah. The surrealism of reading a book about fetishizing car crashes while on a bus wasn't lost to me. Neither was the irony of taking the bus to be environmentally conscious, only to be the sole person on the bus.
It's a strange little world.
I must recommend The Island highly. It's an action sci-fi movie. Instead of beating you over the head with the metaphysical implications or ignoring them completely, the script makes you aware of the basic problems, then movies forward at breakneck speed. Ewan MacGreggor is one of my favorite actors, and even though she doesn't work as a platinum blond, Scarlett Johansson still manages to be relatively convincing while making you aware of her fantastic rack. It's a fun way to kill a couple hours.
After seeing the trailer for The Transporter 2, I am writing my senator to introduce a bill to require all movies to feature slutty chicks in nurse uniforms with lingerie and guns, car chases, kung fu battles, and gravelly voiced English dudes.
Also, "Rump Shaker" just came on iTunes. I love my music collection.

Ballard is great. Want some muffins?

Cherries are good, but I still prefer gin and Marilyn.
