So I thought I would finally take a moment to catch up on "SG homework". I have really enjoyed reading all of the blogs you babes have posted, it's such a treat to read your thoughts about Sg and personal life experiences.
Ok here goes
Why I want to be a SuicideGirl?
Let's go back a bit....I went to high school in bum fuck Egypt middle of nowhere aka Kansas ;) As you can imagine, being a small town, it was interesting being the only hippie multi racial family. People warmed up to us after a few years, but still I couldn't wait to get out! Of course I was an awkward teenager, shy and strange....luckily I fit right in with the other awkward stoner kids. I remember the day, it was the weekend of my 18th birthday and my friends and I were watching playboy tv and I think they played Sg Italian Villa video. I instantly feel madly in love with @manko and @gogo and all the other awesome unique women! I thought right away, I want to be a part of that movement! I never felt like I fit in with what ever is the norm...and seeing other women embrace being unique was and is so inspiring. Skip forward a few years...I moved to California, and traveled and "grew up" a little bit. Honestly I never used the internet much, still don't know what the hell I'm doing on the inter webs, so I sort of forgot how easy it could be to connect with this community. A friend told me about model mayhem, and I started shooting and building a portfolio. During a shoot, a photographer friend reminded and encouraged me to join and apply. I joined the site in 2010, and I fell madly in love, and haven't looked back since! It took awhile before I shot a set for Sg, submitting my 1st set in 2013. Some of you had connected with me before then through Zivity, which is another big and inspiring part of my life now. I love the community and support here, and I go through withdraws after just a few days away! I hope to continue this journey and make many more friends this year! It's truly been an amazing experience so far, thank you all for making these good times possible, and for keeping us sane and connected!
Why I choose my SG name?
I choose Nubia for a couple reasons. I've always been obsessed with Egypt and the ancient history and religions of that area of the world. I feel a strong pull/connection .... maybe it's "past life" (future life?) I don't know, but I can't resist. Nubia is a region along the Nile river, and has a rich ancient culture tracing all the way back to 3100BC onward, according to modern records anyways. Anywho....it's gorgeous and I would love to travel there someday. Plus Nubia made a better name then Isis or Hathor ;)
Then one day when I goggled Nubia, I learned that Nubia is Wonder Woman's black sister!
I should do cosplay! ;)
