Although I don't work, I do try to contribute to society, at least a little bit. I volunteer on a few committees for social service groups.
One is local, runs a psychosocial rehabilitation program, which is primarily a drop-in centre for adults with mental illness. We also offer a psychogeriatric nursing service.

I also sit on two related committees that work on district and regional issues related to the intersection of the mental health and justice systems. Basically, where people with a mental illness (or an addiction or developmental disability) come into conflict with the law. It's pretty interesting stuff. And they meet in Sudbury (about a two-hour drive), so I get a nice trip out of it.

That's where I'm off to on Friday. My travel time actually usually works out to about double the time of the actual meeting. But I love highway driving. And traffic is almost always light along this section of the Trans-Canada, so it's a great time to relax and listen to music. Very meditative.
