Why is dndBeyond’s Marketplace Such a Mess?

A friend is running a Christmas-themed dnd one-shot campaign and they’ve instructed the players to create elven characters. Any kind of elf, but it must be an elf. I have a particular concept for this character that’s being honed as I learn more about the various features available in constructing a character. After reading the race features in the character builder on dndbeyond, I settled on creating a High Elf. That is until I discovered there were a great many more kinds of elves available. Now, a High Elf just isn’t going to cut it; I want my character to be a Mark of Shadow Elf. Problem is, this race isn’t freely available, nor is it easy to find. I’ve been trying to hunt down the Mark of Shadow Elf on dndbeyond for purchase to use on my character sheet, but no dice. The search function doesn’t work well for the marketplace and it’s difficult to locate subclasses unless you already know what book they’re listed in.

Lame.

The first character I ever created is an Eladrin Elf. Eladrins have all kinds of mechanics that I wasn’t aware of because they weren’t listed in the freely available version in the character builder. Turns out, there’s a separate version of the race that’s available for purchase that includes all of the everything for the main race, and I didn’t know that until my DM and I took a deep dive into the character I had built and discovered a host of missing features.

Lame.

Now I’m on a search for the proper race for this new character I’m building and I’m having a rough go of it because dndbeyond’s marketplace isn’t well organized, nor is their site properly indexed so I can’t even Google it. I could go the manual route and just use a paper character sheet, but I’m just not that big of nerd. Dndbeyond’s system is easy to use otherwise, and if I like this character well enough, I may want to use them in online campaigns. So, the search continues. I also understand that subscribing to their service unlocks everything and blah, blah, blah; I’m just not going to do that right now.

Maybe one day Wizards of the Coast will get their shit together and make it easier for users to find specific shit in their marketplace.

Anyway, here’s a poster featuring @avrora, suggested by my partner, who also selected the primary image to use:

@jtelson thank you for the reference! I was able to grab the subrace from the Eberron book. I’m still learning my around the content. For the time being, I’ve been grabbing things I want á la cart.
