i finally rented and watched this movie today.



this even surprises me, but i have to give it a marginal thumbs down. and this is coming from a big wes anderson fan, a big bill murray fan and a big bud cort fan. i just think given the really great subject matter, the movie could have been so much greater. i almost see it as being more of a tim burton film or maybe even terry gilliam. i think either of those directors would have made the film way more stylish and interesting to look at. i did like the underwater sequences. they reminded me of a cross between yellow submarine and the 1902 Mlis film Le Voyage dans la lune. but overall it lacked the interesting characters and amazing dialogue of every other anderson film. too bad. i even thought defoe was aweful.

i know, this can be filed under super late movie reviews. but i am still catching up on some things i need to see.

so, what's your opinion of the life aquatic with steve zisou?

am i totally wrong about this?
