i saw Bright Eyes tonight...again. i think this is actually the fourth time i've seen mr. oberst live. this one was totally amazing. it was mostly acoustic and really mellow. the audience remained seated for the entire show. i really love shows like this.
connor oberst was, i guess you could say, the main attraction. but, the show consisted of one set and several musicians. they all would come and go and change instruments. one of the guys that played was jim james from a band called my morning jacket. this guy has one of the best voices i have ever heard and the highlight of the night was his cover of always on my mind by willie nelson. it completely blew my mind. and connor got more comfortable as the night went along. in between a couple of songs he said, "everybody's going to vote for john kerry, right?" to which a girl in the audience yelled, "less politics, more music!!" and he replied sharply, "fuck you!!" the crowd cheered. it was glorious.
i wish you all could have been there. it was a really great night.
see you all tomorrow night at the friday night lonely hearts club.
