in case you missed it, a couple nights ago, the usa network showed the first ten minutes of the dawn of the dead remake complete and uncut. being a big fan of the original...as well as all george romero and zombie films...i was baffled that they even had to do a remake of such a classic. but after reading a few things on it and now seeing the first ten minutes of the film, i am officially on board. the opening scene is in this nice, quiet suburban town...everything seems nice and happy. much like the opening scene of blue velvet. but within probably the first 4 minutes all hell breaks loose (because there's no more room there?) and the first zombie we see is a little girl. she bites someone and then that guy's a zombie within seconds. none of that gradual change from the original. no time for being pushed around a mall in a wheel barrow.

and the movie certainly doesn't spare the gore. lots of brains, blood and flesh abound.

the one thing that i'm still not quite sure about, and i won't know until i see the entire film tomorrow, is the fact that the zombies seem to have super human strength...like theyre super heroes or something. the jump, they run...kinda like the infected in 28 days later...which i really didn't like much at all.

I was also worried about what a big budget hollywood zombie film would look like. i was sure that it wouldn't have the lovely shots from an argento or fulci film, but i was actually wrong about that. the direction is great and the cinematography is great. there's an amazing shot of some zombies eating people behind some glass in a bus. i couldn't believe it when i saw that.

so, please write me a comment and give your preconceived opinions on the dawn of the dead remake. and then tomorrow we'll see how it really is. but i'm hoping it's good, and i can't wait to see it.
