having a slow week ... gotta get caught up for midterms today and monday. wish me luck.
legionnaire:
Good luck! I forgot, you guys are on quarters, right? So you don't get finished until like June? Bummer.
emmagoldman:
Thank you, my friend. Six weeks isn't too bad, it will fly by. I wish I could go back six weeks, I might have been better prepared for a couple of papers.

Thanks for the heads up on the anarchist group, I will check it out. Great sign, by the way, and I love your pic. Did you do this yourself?

yep. pres elections. you have to at least acknowledge that there is a difference between outright support and indifference.. which in my one-liner ways is what i'm acknowledging.

so that was the weekend that was.

on Friday I went to a geek-Goth hot-tub party that was practically an orgy biggrin, woke up on a futon in a strange house with some woman whose name I couldn't immediately remember love, then went to my college with my dad for a day and evening of alumni receptions, being shown off by my dad, and hearing...

Where do you go to school?
legionnaire:
Ah, a Banana Slug! A bunch of my friends graduated from UCSC a few years ago. I had many good times there. I did my undergrad at UCB, not too far away. You're in the home stretch, I take it (just based on your age)?

so in one weekend, I saw Hellboy (which was entertaining, if a little silly), had inspiring conversations (based on this essay), went to a campfire, drank malt liquor mimosas, slept outside in a redwood forest, and celebrated Easter by sitting in my great aunt's living room for five hours, talking about absolutely nothing with my aunts, uncles and cousins.

Now I have a week...

I thought Hellboy was OK, but you're right, a bit silly.

Sounds like you had a fun weekend though. And a busy week coming up!

last night I went to a benefit event for the Revolutionary Association for the Women of Afghanistan (RAWA). They had a representative talk about how things have changed (and what hasn't) in the last year or so. As it happens, most things haven't changed, and some areas are back to worse than the Taliban (!)

Psychology Jeopardy (aka the GRE) was as hard as I'd feared. I think I did well, but I may have lost points for not knowing what the vestibular sensory apparatus is, or what it does, or why the fuck it matters if I know it or not whatever

But it's over, and now back to my regularly scheduled Saturday night. biggrin

Studying for the GRE is like studying for Jeopardy, but in only one subject (psychology, in my case). It sucks, though, because I don't get to be on TV, and even if I "win", the payoff won't be for years.

downloading music .... Limewire sucks. I miss Napster to death.

also, Interpol is one of the most depressing bands I've heard in a long time.

less than 36 hours to go until the GRE, and I'm way not ready eeek

it's a brand new quarter here at UC Santa Cruz, and I'm already sick of it, after only two days! No rest for the weary ...

It's also going to be my last quarter here, I'm graduating in June. I should be excited and glad to soon be done with homework and tests forever, but in fact I'm scared to death, and also sad to...

I have a couple of friends in Santa Cruz. If I could find a decent job out there I would definately move out for a few years. Although my east coast roots make me prone to snear at/beat up panhandlers.

I just saw The Fog of War, about McNamara and his role in two wars, and it was stunning the similarities between the Vietnam war and Iraq, at least in terms of the behavior of the national leadership. Which got me to thinking: we should ban anyone from Texas from being president.
