This past September, I was invited to observe a photo shoot with @cadavre in Manhattan. Ever since I was young, I've wondered what sort of magic went on behind the scenes of a nude photo shoot. There just seemed to be something so sexy and exciting about it. So this was a real treat.
What I was surprised by was how mundane the whole thing was. I loved meeting Cadavre and her husband. I enjoyed watching the process because I'm endlessly fascinated by creative processes. I listen to director's commentary on almost any movie, read up on the recording of any album. I scour the internet to learn what tools my favorite cartoonists use. So to see a live shoot itself was fun and educational (and I couldn't have asked for a lovelier subject). But it's not the sexy fun my adolescent brain used to dream about.
That was a great day, though. I still look back on it quite fondly. And Cadavre is as amazing in real life as she is on the internet, which is a huge bonus.
The other fun fact is that the main image from this drawing was referenced off a photo I took myself (as was the shot of the photographer). Another lesson learned is that I'm not much of a photographer.
