I still remember that day and how I felt. But that's for me. And I have my opinion of what the world has become since, but I will keep it to myself. What I'd like to remind everyone is that, on this day, there were men and women who gave their lives to save others not because of patriotism but because it was the right thing to do.
Honor them.
But don't mourn.
"Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also."

(And, yes, I understand it's perhaps a tad hypocritical for an atheist to quote Christ).

And personally, I don't see your using that quote to be the least bit hypocritical,
The quote troubles me a bit, but it's a personal issue, not at all in how you used it. (Just not comfortable with the turn the other cheek part. Seems to me to encourage the behavior more than tolerate it. But I flinch at religion these days.)
